Are “Free” Versions a Healthier Choice?

You have probably heaard of sugar-free and fat-free but are they better for our health? There are so many products available these days thats it quite easy to be overwhelmed.

Then when we have get togethers, theres always someone like this👇🏻

Who else grew with a mom like this?

🚫 Why this myth is unhelpful:

We've all encountered the well-meaning advice to swap out our favorite high-calorie indulgences with their supposedly healthier counterparts. But is this strategy genuinely beneficial?

Consider this: often, these alternative versions miss the mark on the rich flavors we desire. This dissatisfaction can lead us to believe we're making a healthier choice, inadvertently giving us permission to overindulge. This perpetuates the all-or-nothing mindset, becoming a contributing factor to the dieting and binge-eating cycle.

Choosing free versions for “health” can be a very black and white perspective on food and health.

🌟 What you could do instead:

Let's strip away the misconceptions and get back to basics: Embrace the foods you genuinely enjoy without the unnecessary guilt. It's perfectly fine to indulge in your favorite treats in their original, delightful form.

Practice mindful eating: Tune into your cravings and ask yourself what you truly desire. If that decadent piece of cake is calling your name, go for it. Satisfaction is a key player in reducing binge eating.

Balance is key: Rather than eliminating, strive for equilibrium. Incorporate a mix of indulgent and nutritious options for both mental and physical well-being.

In social settings, I love sharing starters and desserts with friends and family. It's a fantastic way to experience a variety of flavors, satisfying my taste buds, and leaving me fully content.

It’s time to start embrace the authenticity of your food choices, savour every flavor, and navigate the world of nutrition with newfound clarity (and without restrictions).
